On July 19 a citizens group planned and permitted a "police appreciation event" at the Greek Theatre in Civic Center Park. Given this is coming in the wake of the George Floyd protests, this was seen as a purposeful affront to protesters for social justice. The organizer said it was on the same day and same place in prior years but I didn't verify that. Who cares anyway.
PSL was determined to answer any public voice in support of the police with a counter protest. As the country western band kicked off and the BBQ seemed to be flowing (not actually sure there was BBQ)..a PSL led group of a 150 or so armed with noisemakers that included pots and pans, walked into the midst of the police party.
Tempers flared. A few small dust ups and it all eventually wound down. One guy hit a few of the PSL people with an umbrella he must have picked up on the ground and in response he was hit with a skateboard.
This will let you hear how annoying the sound was. It went on for a long time.

The police pretty much stood amongst the two groups - didn't interact with anyone really.
But the face of the modern police force really looks like an army. What would we think if these guys were in Santiago, Chile or Hong Kong?

Oakleys.
